Mother Nature cooperated on Saturday and all seven participants were ready to go well before sunrise. When all was said and done Aledia Tush walked off with her third Sarasota Tarpon Tournament victory making her the first female angler to accomplish this feat. Her 28.5” catch early on Saturday was enough to have her name engraved for the third time on the Tournament’s Historic Trophy. Second place went to Logan Neal who caught and released a 28’5” Tarpon, however Aledia’s catch was recorded first.
Doug Forde finished 3rd with a catch of 27 inches. Larry Leszczynski finished 4th, Joe Peters 5th, Gabor Torok 6th, and David Sugar was 7th. The Sarasota County Anglers Club would like to congratulate Aledia Tush and her fellow Fish-Off participants, as well as everyone who helped make this year’s Tournament such a success. This years Tournament marked the 86th consecutive event making the Annual Sarasota Tarpon Tournament the oldest continuously running Tarpon Tournament in the entire country.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Awards Banquet to be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency-Sarasota. We urge everyone to attend, a splendid time is guarantee for all.

Seven Anglers will compete in this Saturday’s Fish-Off. The five weekly winners, Joseph Peters Week 1, Larry Leszczynski Week 2, Aledia Tush Week 3, Logan Neal Week 4, Gabor Torok Week 5, along with the separate Division winners, Doug Forde Fly Division, and David Sugar who had the most releases in the Tournament overall.
Several of the participants in this year’s Fish-Off are previous Tournament winners including Aledia Tush who will be going for her third Tournament win. The weather looks great for Saturday, good luck to everyone.

Heading into the Tournament’s final week we’ve seen four different 1st place finishes in weeks one through four. Week One Joseph Peters 36.5”, Week Two Larry Leszczynski 41”, Week Three Aledia Tush 37.5”, and Week Four Logan Neal 37”.
In the His & Her’s Division Doug Forde 33″ & Aledia Tush 37.5″ hold first place with a combined total of 70.5 inches. Austin Kuster leads the Youth Division with a 34.5 inch catch recorded on May 24th, and Aledia Tush is leading the Women’s Division with a 37.5 inch catch at Midnight Pass around 1 p.m. on May 24th.
To date Larry Leszczynski and Brock Horner are tied for the largest recorded catch of the Tournament with both recording a 41 inch Tarpon caught and released. Officially Larry Leszczynski holds the designation for largest Tarpon, nosing out Brock Horner with his catch by just a few hours on May 15th.

Larry Leszczynski’s 41 inch catch in week two of this year’s tournament was enough to land him in first place for the week. Brock Horner also landed a 41 inch tarpon on the same day, Sunday, May 15th, however Larry’s catch was recorded earlier in the day. Gabor Torok placed third for week two with a 38 inch catch in Big Pass on Wednesday around sunset.
In the His & Her’s Division Clark Wright Sr. 35.5 inch & Ashley Little 32.5 inch hold first place with a combined total of 68 inches. Austin Kuster leads the Youth Division with a 34 inch catch recorded on Saturday, and Lori Colado is leading the Women’s Division with a 34 inch catch off of Longboat Key around 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The weather has been spectacular and the week ahead looks like they’re calling for a lot more sunshine. There is a chance on Friday for showers and high temps mid-day will remain in the mid to upper 80’s.

Last night’s 2016 Sarasota Tarpon Tournament Kick-Off event at the Hyatt Regency-Sarasota drew a large crowd. Event organizers were overwhelmed by the show of support from the community. The annual banquet, celebrating the tournament’s 86th consecutive year of competition, kicked into gear promptly at 7 p.m. with Event Chairman Mason Tush acting as master of ceremonies.
A review of the tournament rules and a thank you to all tournament sponsors, including a special thanks to the 2016 Presenting Sponsors, Cannons Marina, Hann Powerboats, and Tom Kane Construction Inc. followed. Several other speakers shared the floor and the committee expressed its sincere gratitude to the Hyatt Regency-Sarasota who once again this year acted as the tournament’s Hosting Sponsor.
As usual there was an incredible selection of fishing related items, with too many to mention here, donated for this year’s charity raffle which was conducted throughout the evening.
All monies raised from the evening’s Kick-Off event and from the tournament overall will be donated to charity. The Tournament fishing begins this Saturday, May 7th and will continue for the next 5 weeks.

The Kick Off event for the 2016 edition of the 86th Annual Sarasota Tarpon Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Once again the event will be held at the Hyatt Regency-Sarasota. More than 100 anglers are expected to registered for this year’s historic Tournament. Week 1 of the 5-week event is set to begin on Saturday, May 7th. All weekly results will be posted here on this website.
Check in begins at 6:00 p.m., and dinner starts at 7:00. Come rub elbows with your fellow tarpon enthusiast, swipe stories about the one that got away, and take a chance on winning some amazing door prizes too!
